Keep fit and flexible with Oceania’s specifically designed exercise programme, create a personalised playlist of your favourite tunes with ‘I Love Music,’ or hop in the van for a jaunt, with different destinations each week.

  • Chef-led Team

From familiar family favourites to popular modern dishes, our Head Chef works with their team to create balanced meals to look forward to. With seasonal menus and the ability to adapt to your dietary requirements, we’re proud to provide a varied and inclusive dining experience.

  • Our Clinical Approach

Oceania has been recognised for our leading initiatives in Aged Care such as our Nurse Practitioner model, with a Nurse Practitioner typically onsite five days a week, which has reduced wait times for medical appointments in our Care Centres. We also use a digital medication management system, Medi-Map.

  • Care Suite Model

Care Suites were introduced to New Zealand by Oceania, and our care centre at Awatere is a purpose-built space to provide residents with a fresh and homely environment. One benefit of a Care Suite is that they are suitable for both Rest Home and Hospital level of care, meaning you can stay in your suite if your needs change between these levels. Care Suites are purchased under a Right to Occupy with a maximum net management fee of 30% after three years of occupation. The benefit of this arrangement is the extra amount you pay for having a premium room is  fixed for as long as you stay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have a NASC needs assessment?

No, you do not need to have a NASC needs assessment if you are paying for private care. Our clinical team at Awatere will do their own assessment to create a personalised care plan that meets your requirements. Specialist dementia care (secure dementia care or psychogeriatric care) is not available in a Care Suite at Awatere. Please discuss the options available to you with our manager.

Will my dietary requirements be accommodated?

Yes, our Head Chef and culinary team will prepare all of your meals in line with your care plan.

When can my friends & family visit?

Awatere is your home and your friends and family are able to visit freely. We ask that visitors are mindful to try to avoid times when residents will sleeping or having daily cares.

Who looks after my medication?

All medication, including over-the-counter drugs, are managed by our nursing team and overseen by our nurse practitioner. These nurses arrange prescriptions and organise medication with our contracted pharmacies. Some residents can manage their own medications with a safe box in their room and oversight from our clinical team.

Can I keep my existing doctor (GP)?

You’re welcome to keep your existing GP but please be aware that it’s not always possible for them to visit you at your Care Centre or come at short notice or afterhours. You can choose to enrol with our nurse practitioner who is scheduled to be onsite five days a week. There may be an additional cost if you use your existing GP.

Can I decorate my room?

Yes. This is your own private space and it’s important you feel at home, so why not personalise it with your own pictures and ornaments? We can provide furniture, but you might like to bring your favourite chair, side table and bedspread. Please ensure all electrical items you bring in with you have been certified and tagged as safe by an electrician before you move in. Alternatively, our maintenance team may be able to do this for you, but there could be an extra charge for this service.
